Everton midfielder Amadou Onana featured prominently in Belgium’s 3-2 win over Germany on Tuesday night, recording their second win from two games in their Euro 2024 qualifiers.

The 21-year-old played the whole 90 minutes in Cologne, as he did in the 3-0 win over Sweden on 24 March, running the show from midfield in what was a dominant and assured showing in Domenico Tedesco’s new and improved Belgian side.

And Onana received praise for his performance from Belgian outlet HLN [29 March], providing him with a 7/10 rating and comparing him to former Goodison Park icon Marouane Fellaini.

The outlet wrote: “Boss in midfield. Duel power, strong head, vista and he dares to go in firmly. The reincarnation of Marouane Fellaini. Still scoring now and then.”

The £33m Everton summer signing has been an absolute revelation for both club and country throughout the campaign, consistently showing why he is heavily regarded as one of the best young midfielders on the continent.

A tremendous and superb player both on and off the ball, it’s easy to see why he is now one of the first names on the teamsheet for both Everton and Belgium.

With the Toffees facing some crucial fixtures in the coming weeks as they look to steer clear of the relegation places, Onana will be absolutely pivotal to their hopes of survival.

The 21-year-old has attracted a whole host of interest in the recent past, from both Arsenal and Chelsea and rejected a move in the January window declaring he wants to help Everton for the remainder of the season, and that mentality has certainly endeared him to the Toffees faithful.

However, providing the Blues don’t achieve their ambitions this summer, he could well be on the move to a bigger outfit. His talents deserve the grandest stage, as he showed once again against Germany.
